Memory Care Programming

Memory Care Programming

Our comprehensive Memory Care program focuses on eight aspects to provide helpful support and loving care that honors who they are and where they are in their journeys:
  • WELL-BEING

Therapeutic, structured daily activities are a fundamental component of our memory care programing.  Activities are not only “age appropriate” but they also help provide routine to help reduce anxiety or stress.  Programs focus on cognitive, creative, community, motivation, physical, social and spiritual wellness.
  • SOCIALIZATION & ENGAGEMENT

Specially developed group activities help caregivers connect with residents and engage in purposeful activities. Team-member led activities can be done at any time, Supplies are conveniently located and feature a large variety of activities ready at a moment’s notice. Furthermore, communities embrace intergenerational programs, visiting pets, and sensory stimulation, among many others.
  • REST & RESTORATION

Personalized, technological interventions – such as nostalgic music on headphones and tablets showing non-plot videos – help manage challenging behaviors while promoting solace, relaxation and reflection to maintain a calm, supportive environment.
  • MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS

Communications for Memory Care residents are two-fold at Westminster.  We communicate through our quarterly Care Conferences to review and update the Service/Care Plan of each resident. This is done with the management, support staff and resident family and/or responsible party. Secondly, we communicate with residents through respectful and slow encouragements, without quick questioning or confusing dialogue. Close resident-caregiver-family relationships build familiarity and trust, while empowering residents to remain active, connected and fulfilled.
  • NUTRITION

Dining is an important aspect of caring for your loved one.   Each neighborhood has an activity kitchen to provide the familiarity of a kitchen in their own homes.   Residents may work, complete chores and prepare dishes, with unobtrusive supervision and support. Mealtime menus are enhanced in the community by services such as oshibori, the Japanese pre-meal tradition using warm towels infused with essential oils to freshen hands and prepare residents for the sensory experience of dining.
  • SUPPORT

Providing support and guidance to both you and your loved one.  Care is provided by specially trained caregivers who understand the disease process and is devoted to helping each resident have a sense of purpose and success.  In addition, our support groups, education and resources help provide you the emotional support, assistance and reassurance you may need throughout your loved ones’ disease progression.
  • ENVIRONMENT

Serene welcoming environment provides a genuine sense of home and belonging, positively impacting behavior, encouraging interaction and reducing stress.  Every detail from paint colors, furniture selection, to the carpet and artwork have been taken into consideration. The outdoor common areas are available to residents seeking fresh air, the warmth of sunshine and the sounds of leaves and birds. The interiors feature a television lounge in each neighborhood and barrier free walking.
  • SENSE OF PURPOSE

Our goal is to empower our residents to gain a sense of purpose and success throughout the day.   Whether they help select a shirt to wear or help set a dining room table, we feel it is important for your loved one to have every opportunity to be their best.
